Monday Motivation- I have a Dream and the Your Turn Challenge

Over the weekend many people celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday.  Today is the actual federal holiday here in the U.S.  One question kept coming up in my mind while writing this post over the weekend.  I think it was on a lot of people’s mind.  How would he feel about the current state of the U.S.?

I think he would be happy how we have progressed in certain areas, but be dismayed by our consistent mistakes and repetitiveness in others.  But in all the history that I have read about my ancestor’s lives we are not that much different right now.  Sure, we have advance technology and more of us have moved into the middle, upper middle, and the upper class other things have not changed.  The hatred for one another has not changed.  The immature ideal of racism has not changed.  But the realization of Dr. King’s “I have a Dream” speech hasn’t either.  We still have glimpses of racism deeply rooted in the soil of our entire country.  North to South and East to West.  We still have examples of segregation in our “neighborhood zoning”.

But you know what?  So what.  Yes I said it.  I acknowledge all of it.  I am not ignoring it, but I am not letting the immature ideas and attitudes of a misguided group run my life.  I am here to live Dr. King’s Dream.  The American Dream. My Dream.
