Focus on Number One

Day in and day out your focus on making sure things are running smoothly. At work and at home.

You focus on your goals and aspirations. You focus on ensuring you have things in place to accomplish them. You focus on the future and how you will spend that hard earned time.

But when are you focusing on you? When are you focusing on right now the present? Really think about it.

Are you focusing on what you are doing right now?  Chances are you are doing something for someone else.  Stop and think about yourself.

Devote ten minutes for you. Focus on your breathing.  Is it shallow? If so take a deep breath and fill up your diaphragm completely. Let it out slowly and really concentrate on the simple aspect of it.

Be mindful of what is going on around you. Are you taking care of yourself. Is the environment you are in right now beneficial to you?

These are small things we take for granted everyday, but are important. These things and many others effect our mood and our very livelihood.

So it is important to take time to focus on what’s important to you. Meditation is something that could help you. Even 20 minutes a day of exercise could do the trick.

The important thing is to put yourself first sometime during the day. You truly can’t be a service to others if you don’t take care of number one:  you.

What have you done today to focus on yourself?

  1. This is a fantastic post! We need to understand that setting aside time for ourselves is far from selfish. It is necessary for our well-being, and that benefits all of those around us as well. Best, Karen 🙂
